What was Aang really trying to tell Katara at the end of Episode 1? My theory? He was about to confess his feelings. But why did he stop?
I just finished watching Avatar: The Last Airbender Season 2, Episode 1, and out of everything that happened, this is the scene I can’t stop thinking about.

At the end of the episode, Aang approached Katara, and for a moment, I honestly thought he was about to confess his feelings to her. But just as he was about to say something, he stopped.
So what was he really trying to tell her?
I haven’t watched the original Avatar: The Last Airbender animated series, so this is purely my theory based on the live-action adaptation. But I feel like Aang was about to admit how he feels about Katara.
At the same time, maybe he realized that this wasn’t the right moment.
The comet is getting closer, the Fire Nation is becoming more powerful, and Aang is still only learning his second element. You can really feel the weight of the responsibility on his shoulders.
With everything happening around him, maybe saving the world has to come before his personal feelings. Maybe that’s why he couldn’t bring himself to say what he really wanted to say.
Or maybe I’m completely wrong. Maybe he was trying to tell Katara something else entirely.
And that’s exactly why I’m curious to see what happens in Episode 2.
Overall, I really enjoyed the opening of Season 2. The stakes feel much higher right away, and Episode 1 definitely left me wanting to see what happens next.
What do you think Aang was about to tell Katara? Was he really about to confess his feelings, or did he have something else in mind?
