I watched the special screening of Honor Thy Mother Episode 1, and honestly, I was impressed.
When I first saw the trailer, I thought it would be a typical family drama centered on a mother and daughter. But after watching Episode 1, I realized it was something different.

Actually, it exceeded my expectations, even though I didn’t really have any expectations going in! Hahaha!
A Fast-Paced Start
The story revolves around Diana, played by Sharon Cuneta, who is in critical condition and because of her situation, her daughter Patricia, played by Barbie Forteza, returns to her life.
This is where the issues, secrets, and conflicts between mother and daughter begin.
I don’t want to dwell too much on the story because I don’t want to spoil anything. But one thing I can say is that Episode 1 sets up its conflicts very quickly.
It’s fast-paced and engaging, and you won’t have to wait long before something happens.
There are also twists that I didn’t expect the show to reveal this early in the series. While watching, I found myself thinking, “Wait… this is happening already?!” 😂
Sharon Cuneta and Barbie Forteza
Of course, Honor Thy Mother has a star-studded cast. But what I appreciate is that they didn’t simply bring in big names. They brought together powerhouse actors.
Aside from Sharon Cuneta and Barbie Forteza, the cast includes Tonton Gutierrez, Maris Racal, John Estrada, Khalil Ramos, and a cameo from Tirso Cruz III.
But when it comes to the acting… JUST WOW.
It feels like Barbie and Sharon are challenging each other in their scenes, but in the best way possible.
You can really feel how much they give to their performances. And it’s only Episode 1, but they already made me cry!
Sharon is Sharon. When it comes to acting, her talent is undeniable.
And Barbie Forteza? Barbie is Barbie. We already know how talented she is, but in this series, her presence is particularly strong.
What makes their characters even more interesting is that both Diana and Patricia are strong-willed women.
Patricia isn’t the typical daughter who simply follows her mother’s wishes. She is outspoken, has her own convictions, and you can definitely see why she is her mother’s daughter.
Who Will Give In First?
After watching Episode 1, I couldn’t help but wonder:
With both Diana and Patricia being strong-willed, who will be the first to give in?
So far, I’m already interested to see where Honor Thy Mother will take their complicated mother-daughter relationship.
And if Episode 1 is already this packed with conflict, I’m excited to see what the next episodes have in store.
